Appalachian Prison Belt

Still getting my road trip legs on, well, really, the time to write while on the road. but so here's a little map [i gotta work on my tech chops, yo!] showing bits of the Appalachian prison belt that I drove along on I-64, then into West Virginia, Kentucky, and back to western Virginia. Across the ridge from Harrisonburg in western Virginia, there are plans to build a new immigrant detention center, and just south of Harrisonburg, a new one is in the works. The People United have been organizing around these, and I learned about the prison town complex in western VA from Ms K @ RIHD and the Thousand Kites project based at Appalshop in Whitesburg, KY. I'll be posting about all their awesome work soon, and hopefully in Asheville. But now it's off to labor day celebrations in Knoxville.
